EVENT SETUP

Description: This person may help with a variety of tasks related to the event set up such as putting together fields, hanging banners, running cables, setting up volunteer and team areas.

EVENT TEARDOWN

Description: This person may help with a variety of tasks related to the event tear down such as tearing down fields, setting up volunteer and team areas and putting away banners and cables.

FIELD RESETTER

Description: This is a great job for younger kids.  They will be resetting the competition fields after each match using a field diagram map.

HEAD REFEREE

Description: Head Referees will oversee all competition matches and be the main decision maker for interpreting and enforcing game rules.  Will also train scorekeepers.

Age Requirement: At least 20 years old

Certification Requirement: Must be a Certified RECF Head Referee for the competition program you are volunteering for, which includes recertification each season.

INSPECTOR

Description: Inspect all of the teams' robots using a checklist to verify the robots comply with game rules and specifications.  Previous knowledge in game rules and the VEX product lines is helpful, but anyone can be an inspector if you have great communication skills and attention to detail.

Age Recommendation: This role is best suited for those who are at least 18 years old.

JUDGE

Description: Judges interview teams and review engineering notebooks, requiring impartiality and confidentiality.

Age Requirement: 21+ for VEX U events, 20+ and not part of a V5RC team for V5RC events, and 16+ for IQ events (those 16-17 will be paired with a judge who is 18+).

Certification Requirement: RECF certification is required for Judge Advisors and highly encouraged for Judges.

QUEUER

Description: Queuers stage teams and make sure they're ready for upcoming matches.  They tell teams when they can go to the field and help make sure the matches can start on time.

SCOREKEEPER REFEREE

Description: Accurately record match scores on the TM Mobile app or paper scoring sheets.  Also discuss potential rule violations with the Head Referee and make sure the field is reset correctly before each match.

Age Requirement: At least 15 years old

Certification Requirement: It is highly encouraged all scorekeepers (both competition and skills matches) are RECF certified.

TEAM CHECK IN

Description: Check in teams, hand out materials, and collect engineering notebooks.  Answer basic questions about the venue and event.  This can be a fast-paced role.

TOURNAMENT MANAGER (TM) OPERATOR

Description: Use the Tournament Manager software on a computer to monitor matches, make sure scores are saved, and help enter match scores if paper scoring is used.

VOLUNTEER CHECK IN & INFORMATION DESK

Description: Greet volunteers and guests and help answer questions related to the event, venue, and the local area (restaurants and things to do).  Volunteers in this role will also be responsible for checking pre-registered volunteers in and helping walk-up volunteers find a role that fits well for them.  This can be a fast-paced role.
