Judging & Engineering Notebooks

We will be using an all in-person judging format.

Judging & Engineering Notebooks

The State Championship will use an all in‑person judging format. Team Interviews and Engineering Notebooks will be evaluated onsite on the day of the event. Teams must bring a physical copy of their Engineering Notebook to submit to the judges.

All judging activities will take place at the event. Please ensure that at least one team member is present at your pit table at all times. If your team is unavailable when the judges arrive for an interview, kindly ask them to return at a later time.

Engineering notebooks will be returned to team pits during elimination/finals matches.  If a team has already packed up their pit, their engineering notebook will be brought to the Welcome/Information Desk.

Teams can learn more about the judging process through the RECF Library's Article on Judging.

Judging Reminders for Teams

  • Teams and individuals are not allowed to record an interview or judging notes, either for their own interview or another team's interview.
  • Team adults are not to answer questions for the team during the interview.  Per the RECF Guide to Judging, "The purpose of the interview is for the student team members to explain their design process and answer questions judges may have about their robot, programming, or Engineering Design process."
